Presentations part 2


During my classmates presentations I was able to learn a lot of things. One of the most interesting things I learned were that most psychologist for many years believed that the only way a person could learned was by reinforcement. This way of thinking was the base of the learning procedure until Tolam gave the idea that human have hidden talent that only shows when needed. Also there is the observation learning, which is when something is learned by just looking how to do it. This idea of the observation method was introduced by Albert Bandura.

 
From the other group I was able to learn how to overcome fear to a non-harmful stimuli by flooding, which is the process in which you introduce the person to their fear and make it interact with it until their brain has process that the the stimuli means no harm and the fear goes away in degrees. I also learned that generalization and discrimination help humans and all animals adapt to their environment

Presentations


Today I learned about ways to study in a more. In this chapter I learn how previewing and questioning could help you study in a steady pace and could help you concentrate and understand even more. The things I learned in this chapter was that having a schedule to study could be of great help in case of an upcoming test or quiz. Also, studying little by little can reduce anxiety level. Another thing I learned is that connecting the date you just read with a daily life example can help you remember even better.

Another good thing to do while studying is to formulate vague questions and try to answer them as you continue to read the information you have been given. As you answer questions you can write keywords to help you have a better understanding of the concept of the passage.

Another thing I learned during this presentations were that if you “give” or praise a behavior in a negative or positive way this create a positive or negative impact in the person. For example if you spank your kid for misbehaving he or she will make a connection that their act is bad and that they will be punished by it.

Meditation experience


Meditation is a method people use to try to narrow the consciousness so that the stresses of the everyday life go away. In the class of psychology, I was able to meditate for the very first time in my whole life. I felt relaxed, and felt like I was being dragged away by the unconscious. I will explain my journey and my experience in the next paragraph.

 

                When the meditation started, I sat on the floor with my back straight to the wall. I was very anxious to do this for the first time. Once the woman started talking, I started to focus on my breathing, inhaling and exhaling very slowly. The female voice guided me through memories I had already forgotten about. I felt in harmony with my surroundings. Afterwards, I was guided through a mountain with a trail until I got to what it looked like a lagoon. Then I saw a door that gave the entrance to the mountain, but at first I couldn’t open it, so I started looking for something and I found like a tobacco pipe and for some odd reason I had to open it with it. The entrance of the mountain was white and really clean, mostly neat. I saw a table with a white box with a red ribbon on top, but I couldn’t open the white box. When I entered the room fill with flowers I was taken back to my childhood were I sat by myself surrounded  of flowers with my mom and dad looking at me. Once I moved to the room with the hot thermal water I got undressed and went under water for a long period of time. When I got to the room with the curative light, I felt like was reborn, and for a minute my mind went white. When I got to the room with the teacher or guardian angel, I saw a woman with really pretty dark brown hair, a little petite, with a homecoming smile. She made me feel at home and secure. The first thing I asked her was if my mom and sister will be ok in the future. She closed her eyes and nodded yes in a slow and patient way. When I walk down the mountain, I remember that I looked back and smile.

 

                To finish telling my experience, I have to say that I actually enjoy doing the meditation thing a lot. Afterwards, I was totally relaxed and felt great. I now feel more within peace with everything, and feel a little bit of relief of any kind of stress. I will totally keep doing this.
